Abstract
This thesis applies the business ecosystems perspective in a case study of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore. More specifically, the thesis aimed to identify how port authorities can develop a business ecosystem that facilitates the use of low- and zero-caron alternative fuels. The study sheds light on role of port authorities as system builders in energy transitions. While ports are considered to perform their traditional functions of operator, regulator and landlord, an extended role is needed which incorporates governance resources shaping the system towards the direction of the transition.
