Abstract
In this thesis we present a comprehensive strategic and financial valuation of Rockwool A/S as of December 31, 2024, using the Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) method. The thesis combines external macro-environmental analysis with internal performance metrics to estimate the company's intrinsic value and compare it with its current market valuation. Rockwool operates in a dynamic global industry where insulation solutions are increasingly influenced by megatrends such as sustainability, energy efficiency, urbanization, and regulatory changes. Through frameworks such as PESTEL, Porter’s Five Forces, and SWOT, the company is evaluated in terms of its strategic strengths and vulnerabilities. The analysis finds that Rockwool holds a solid market position, particularly due to its focus on high-quality, fire-resistant stone wool insulation and its strong alignment with environmental standards and green transition goals. The financial analysis reformulates Rockwools income statements and balance sheets over the past five years and identifies consistent improvements in profitability and operating efficiency. Key value drivers, such as EBITDA margins, sales growth, CAPEX intensity, and working capital efficiency, are used to forecast future free cash flows. The WACC is determined based on market data and tested through a sensitivity analysis to account for risk and uncertainty. The DCF valuation suggests that Rockwools theoretical equity value is broadly aligned with its actual market capitalization, indicating that the stock market reflects the firm’s strategic outlook and financial fundamentals. However, the sensitivity analysis reveals the valuation's dependence on key assumptions, particularly the discount rate and long-term growth. In conclusion, Rockwool is found to be a robust and future-oriented company, well-positioned to navigate the challenges and opportunities presented by the evolving construction industry. The results underscore the relevance of combining strategic insight with financial precision when assessing the value of globally operating firms in highly regulated, sustainability-driven markets.
