Student thesis: Master thesis

Abstract

This study aims to estimate the enterprise value and share price of Pfizer Inc. as of February 27, 2025, through a comprehensive strategic and financial analysis. The valuation estimates Pfizer’s share price at $27.26, representing a 4% undervaluation of the market price at the valuation date. This estimate was derived by forecasting future free cash flows to the firm, based on historical financial data and insights from the strategic analysis. The research was motivated by interest in Pfizer’s performance in the post-COVID-19 era, particularly considering the imminent expiration of several key patents within the next two to three years and the potential implications for the company’s valuation. The strategic analysis revealed that Pfizer is a highly diversified pharmaceutical company, offering treatments for both common and rare diseases across a variety of drug modalities, including antibody-drug conjugates, small molecules, bispecific antibodies, and biologics. In recent years, Pfizer has made substantial investments—partly funded by its COVID-19 revenues—towards expanding its oncology portfolio, positioning itself as a major player in this therapeutic area. The company’s product pipeline, especially in oncology, is a central element of its long-term strategic positioning. However, despite the opportunities presented by growing demand in the pharmaceutical and oncology sectors, Pfizer faces significant regulatory challenges and intense competition across both existing products and pipeline candidates. The financial analysis includes sensitivity analyses to account for uncertainties in key assumptions, such as projected revenue contributions from pipeline products and alternative valuation parameters. These analyses aim to capture potential variations in market expectations and assess the robustness of the valuation estimate.
