Abstract
Mindfulness and creativity have been linked together in academia in recent years, theorizing that mindfulness practice may have a positive effect on creativity. Researchers have called for a further integration of the two into a joint framework. This study presents the design and implementation of a Mindfulness Inspired and Creativity Program conducted within a corporate setting, specifically at Jellyfish, a creative marketing consultancy in Copenhagen, Denmark. The aim of the study is to explore participants’ experience of creativity and mindfulness, through Design Thinking, and guided meditations. The program consists of a Design Thinking Workshop that incorporates meditations between each design phase, followed by a four-week period of weekly guided meditations. The Mindfulness Inspired and Creativity Program was facilitated for 12 employees at JellyFish, however, only 10 of the 12 participants engaged in the data collection process. The research is based on qualitative research methods, including careful observation, surveys, talk-back sessions after each meditation session, and semi-structured interviews. The results of the analysis show varying experiences of the program, offering insights for future studies and application of such a Program. Although we cannot conclude that creativity was affected, important insights have been found, such as; establishing a mindset, incorporating benchmarks, providing guidelines for self-reflection, and potential benefits and challenges associated with implementing a Mindfulness Inspired and Creativity Program in the workplace. We encountered limitations that affected the Program’s efficacy, beckoning more research to be conducted. Further research is warranted to address the identified limitations and gain a more comprehensive understanding of the potential relationship between mindfulness and creativity within a corporate context.
