Innovative Synergies in Architecture and Design as Bridges for Creativity and Organizational Growth

Rafael de Souza Pires Coelho da Mota

Student thesis: Master thesis

Abstract

This thesis explores the layered and often contradictory nature of creativity within contemporary organizational and societal systems. Rather than treating creativity as a purely artistic or individual trait, it is approached here as a multifaceted and contested phenomenon—one shaped by ideology, power, and the structures meant to contain or enable it. The Bauhaus serves as a central reference point: as a school of design and architecture, but also a symbol of what creativity can become when freed from rigid hierarchies and profit-driven agendas. Through theoretical inquiry and qualitative interviews with professionals from across disciplines and cultures, this work investigates how creativity is simultaneously celebrated and constrained—valued for its potential, yet too often boxed into narrow, utilitarian forms. By tracing the friction between creative ideals and institutional realities, the thesis reveals how the pursuit of innovation is frequently undermined by the very systems that claim to promote it. Ultimately, this project asks what kind of social structures are needed to make space for creativity in its raw, experimental, and transformative forms. It argues that while perfect conditions may remain out of reach, protecting creative expression from reduction into mere productivity is not only possible—it is essential.
