Over the last couple of years the financial crisis have been rolling globally. The crisis have had great impact on Danish companies' ability to survive. which is why many companies during the last two years have been in crisis and when all comes to all have resulted in the companies' bankruptcy. With regard to the financial crisis it is extremely important that the auditor is aware of circumstances which can lead to information about going concern in the auditor's report. In connection with the audit. going concern is one of the circumstances which the auditor always should assess, whether the circumstances suggest information regarding going concern or not. However, it is of equal importance that the financial statement user is aware of the acquirements the auditor is subject to in relation to assessment and information about going concern. If the financial statement user is not aware of this, a difference between the work performed by the auditor and the work the financial statement user expects from the auditor can easily occur. In Denmark there exists only instructions and standards for auditors and therefore it can not be expected that the financial statement user is familiar with these. Therefore, it is my assumption that a gap between the financial statement user and the auditor will occur. since the financial statement user does not know which aquirements the auditor is subject to both in relation to giving his/her opinion and information regarding going concern in the auditor's report. In light of the above assumptions, the dissertation is based on the expectation gap oecurring between the financial statement user and the auditor in relation to information regarding going concern in the auditor´s report. The thesis in the dissertation is therefore, based on an empiric analysis, to find out if there is an expectation gap between what the financial statement user's concrete expectations to the auditor in relation to information regarding going concern in the auditor´s report and the work required by the auditor. To support the empiric analysis, a thorough evaluation of the theoretic basis of both going eoncern and the expectation gap will be performed. The result of the analysis confirms my thesis regarding the expectation gap between the financial statement user and the auditor. In some areas of the analysis it is clear that there is a significant understanding and expectation gap. In many cases the finaneial statement user simply does not know which aquirements the auditor is subject to in connection with information regarding going concern in the auditor's report. An other important discovery in connection with the analysis is that the financial statement user knows that there is something called an "auditor´s report". but is not aware of the content of the auditor's report including the auditor's opinion and the opportunities connected with this.
