Til kamp for en fair løsning

Abstract

This thesis explores The Danish Confederation of Trade Union's (LO) involvement in the debate on the economic policy paper 'Fair Solution' ('Fair Løsning'), presented by the Danish Social Democrats and the Socialist People’s Party (SF) in May 2010. The policy paper generated a lot of debate in the public and the political sphere, as one of the policy paper suggested a future increase of the daily working hours. By using actor‐network theory as analytical strategy the thesis displays how a network was created in the wake of the debate about the policy paper 'Fair Solution'. Furthermore, the thesis observes how the union mobilises voters and members in support of 'Fair Solution'. By applying a governmentality analysis the thesis describes how LO as an organisation contemplates their potential influence, in their commitment to the political policy paper 'Fair Solution', and how the contemplations reflect LO as a contemporary labour union, that operates under various political circumstances. The thesis discusses LO's involvement in light of the issue of ideology, the concept of contractual policy and political marketing and seek to uncover the challenges the danish labour union faces today.
