    Abstract

Recently the reshoring and insourcing decisions are widely discussed within the Purchasing and Supply Management community. With this study we conceptualize the two phenomena in a unified framework and provide grounded theory on their joint and respective drivers. Based on these findings we are able to develop an agenda for future research. Implications for further research include the need to clearly differentiate between governance (i.e. insourcing) and location (i.e. reshoring) changes, the need to differentiate between reshoring/insourcing as strategic direction or reaction to failure, and opportunities to further study organizational readiness and the decision making process and its actors.
