Abstract

By relying on an understanding of business models rooted in the emerging field of Valuation Studies, this paper examines the role of business models in the design of circular supply chains (CSCs) from new ventures based on Industry 4.0 technologies. A case study exploring the development of a business model to enable a local food CSC is provided. We show that business models support the replication and circulation of ideas and the enrolment of relevant CSC stakeholders. The paper highlights the importance of considering business models as possible entry points to explore the relational aspects characterising the design of CSCs.
