    Abstract

The dissertation concerns the changes in the 1990s in corporate responsibility, and the rise of CSR as a particular manifestation thereof, focusing primarily on child labor and core labor rights. Seeking to contribute to explaining these changes, the dissertation provides an innovative theoretical framework. Furthermore, the dissertation contains in depth analyses of three widely debated cases from the 1990s: the Memorandum of Understanding concerning child labor in the Bangladeshi garment industry (1995), the so-called Atlanta Agreement concerning child labor in the soccer ball production in Pakistan (1997), and the White House Apparel Industry Partnership Agreement (1998).
