Abstract

With the North Sea Agreement (2020), the Danish government put a legally binding end to the exploration and extraction of oil and gas from the North Sea by 2050. This put an end to the exploitation of an energy resource once considered key for Danish energy security, the ‘cleanest’ fossil fuel and ‘a fuel for the future’. This paper narrates the making and the unmaking of gas as an energy resource in Denmark.
