Abstract
To include ‘the corporation’ in an emerging ‘utopian archive’ of ‘forgotten institutions’ and their relevance for ‘democratic futures’ might seem paradoxical, if not outright provocative. Today, 57 (fifty-seven) corporations within oil, gas, and cement production account for 80 (eighty) % of the world’s CO2-emissions, and multinational corporations and the shareholder value maximization doctrine of corporate governance are the driving force behind ever expanding global wealth inequalities. New techniques of workplace surveillance monitors and regulates the bodily moment of workers within factories, fast-food restaurants, and assembly centres in order to increase corporate profits in the name of efficiency. And the very recent introduction of corporate leaders like Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy into American government only pinpoint the extensive integration between politics and corporate capitalism, which have rightfully made the notion of oligarchic government highly relevant again in our times.
