Abstract
This paper argues that a new breed of offshore intermediary has emerged with the function of moderating disparities in expertise (e.g. CMMI levels), culture, and communication styles that often deteriorate performance in offshore relationships. The purpose of this paper is to present some preliminary theoretical justification for the emergence of offshore intermediaries; describe how and why they develop intermediation capabilities; and offer initial evidence substantiating their function and processes in intermediating transnational offshoring relationships in software development
