Abstract
With the advent of the digital age, developers can continuously supplement products with innovative content after their original release. Such supplemental innovation is vital to the sustained growth of digital products, especially in the context of digital games. However, there is a paucity of studies that have scrutinized the impact of supplemental innovation strategy on product performance. To bridge this knowledge gap, we advance the novel concept of supplemental innovation and elaborated on its impact on digital game platforms. We attempt to elucidate the effects of varying aspects of supplemental innovation releasing strategies (e.g., pricing, distribution, and attribute packaging) on game performance. In so doing, insights from this study contribute theoretically to the derivation of an optimal strategy for releasing supplemental innovations by game companies.
