Abstract

Public management (PM) largely means management in and of a highly diverse range of organizations. This makes organization theory (OT) fundamental for understanding how these oranizations work, and how they shape and are shaped by society. We provide a brief overview of current strands of OT and their potential for PM research. We conclude with a call for a stronger integration of the two traditions.
