Open Innovation Capability Maturity Model: The Case of a Multinational Organization

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaperResearchpeer-review

Abstract

Like any other organizational capability, Open Innovation (OI) can be learned, improved, and mastered with sufficient investment in management, training, and organizational support. One of those organizational support tools is a Capability Maturity Model (CMM). In this paper we propose a CMM specifically developed for OI (OI-CMM). Based on case research in a multinational company, we finetune generic OI criteria in the context of their potential contribution to overall innovation performance. The eventual OICMM can – once validated against ongoing empirical research – serve as a blueprint for measuring the adoption of OI processes in NPD of industrial firms.
