Abstract

In this paper, we outline a five-stage maturity model to capture the changes in virtualization of the interface to government with respect to institutional factors and systems and data integration. The proposed Stage Model of Interface Levels to Government (SMILE) is illustrated by snapshots of metaverse and related technological innovations such as augmented reality and virtual reality in South Korea and Denmark. The paper calls for more research on how government institutions and other actors are involved in the design and onboarding of the virtualization of government.
