AbstractThis talk addresses the interaction of knowledge and organization in IB research, particularly research on the MNC. The argument is made that although the MNCliterature is quite advanced with respect to its treatment of firm-level knowledge, several connected problems remain. In particular, there has been an over-emphasison knowledge flows and an under-emphasis on knowledge stocks; themicrofoundations of MNC knowledge are unclear; and there is a no clearunderstanding of the causal relations between knowledge stocks and flows andorganizational control. A control theory approach that may resolve some of theseproblems is then sketched.KeywordsThe MNC, knowledge, organizational control, control theory.
