Abstract

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book supports PhD students in their first or second year of study as well as Master’s thesis writers and students on higher-level courses that contain some research methodology. It The book aims at developing the reader's capability for enhancing the level of scientific contribution in their research, and the necessary skills in positioning it. It addresses when, why, and how to use case research. The book sets out the choices open to the researcher and describes the approaches needed to conduct case research with rigour. It describes clinical approaches to management research and positions them in relation to other field research approaches. The book discusses model-based research in Operations and Supply Chain Management (OSCM). Finally, setting up models based on these quantitative research strategies is described step by step, including practical examples of model-based research.
