Abstract

Technological leapfrogging refers to the adoption of modern technologies in products and services which create the potential for hurdling conventional and outdated distribution channels or means of service and product delivery. This research volume engages honestly and urgently with the potential that the region has for economic growth and prosperity as Africa's people participate actively in digital transformation of their lives, livelihoods, and opportunities. Africa south of the Sahara is a linguistically and culturally complex region and its economic and political history has been marked by path dependencies related to colonialism and complex country-specific historical evolution. We take into account such contextual factors that constrain or influence technology adoption or digital transformation, especially the challenges and opportunities that technological leapfrogging entail in a post-Covid-19 landscape. All authors conduct research in Africa or are closely engaged with institutions that support education, economic growth, and transformation of the continent.
