Abstract

After several winters, enthusiasm for artificial intelligence (AI) among academics as well as practitioners is again at its peak. The latest wave of AI is believed to bring tools capable of performing more complex tasks and aiding as well as substituting organizational decision making. In this introduction chapter, we advance an integrative framework of AI and organizational decision making that comprises three interconnected facets: making decisions about AI, making decisions with AI, and implications of decision making with AI. The introduction of AI results in the redistribution of organizational decisions between these three facets. Each facet constitutes a section in this book, and each section includes cutting-edge AI research conducted by leading and emerging scholars of the field. The promise of this book lies in its nuanced understanding of the phenomenon, from which academic scholars as well as business and technology professionals and students are equally poised to benefit.
