Abstract
This chapter describes the recent increase in interest in workforce analytics (WFA) and provides an overview of the field, addressing its historical roots, theoretical underpinnings, methodological approaches, and implications for business success. We emphasize the evolution of WFA and the need for a structured, scientific approach to WFA to help drive business success. This chapter introduces and describes our ACAI (Ask, Collect, Analyze, Influence) model of WFA implementation and sets this out as a conceptual framework designed to help with the implementation of effective workforce analytics. This requires us first to Ask the right questions; second, Collect the right data; third, Analyze data in the right way; and fourth, Influence the right decisions and workforce outcomes. We emphasize starting the WFA process with strategic questions rather than data accumulation, focusing on uncovering actionable insights aligned with business goals while integrating ethical practices into the analytics process.
