Abstract

In this study, we analyze the factors that drive entrepreneurial learning among early-career academics in pre-incubation programs and examine how (academic) role identities influence this process. Using a longitudinal case study, with data collected through semi-structured interviews, field observations, and web materials, we show that early-career academics differ in their career preferences, ranging from a taste for science to a taste for industry. These orientations shape learning mechanisms within pre-incubation programs and influence their outcomes. This study contributes to the literature on entrepreneurial learning in pre-incubation programs and provides viable implications for program managers and policy makers.
