Abstract
Contemporary organizations operate in complex dynamic contexts that may generate unpredictable events with potentially extreme outcome effects. It is thus timely and highly relevant to consider more adaptive organizations that exploit current insights embedded in the collective intelligence of peripheral stakeholders. Hence, we explore the configurations of adaptive organizations and how collective intelligence can be applied to generate effective organizational adaptation. We argue that a combination of fast insights and slow analytical processes facilitated by advanced digital technologies can form the basis for dynamic adaptive systems. This leads to propositions that effective organizational adaptation is associated with interactive information processing that combines current insights from operational entities with analytics-based strategic updating.
