Abstract

This study investigates how national culture affects the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in new product development. Using the data from 651 companies collected in the 2021 Global PDMA Best Practice survey, we tested two major cultural models: 1) Hofstede and 2) World Values Survey. Our analysis shows that individualism, power distance and self-expression have positive impacts on AI usage and its success. However, we have also found that AI adoption does not directly assure NPD success. Lastly but not least importantly, cultural factors do not affect NPD directly, contrary to the propositions of existing literature.
