Abstract

This chapter examines the growth of the Danish economy during the last 150 years, with a particular emphasis on the period following WWII. During this period, the Danish economy transitioned from an agrarian economy in which government played a very limited role to industrialization and the gradual expansion of the government’s role, par-ticularly in the provision of social services including health care and education, as well as in income redistribution.
