Abstract

This chapter draws together some of the main findings of the volume, and proposes ways of moving beyond the contestation that characterises the stakeholder consultation regime. First, the we analyse the normative basis for interactions among the stakeholders in the consultation regime while demonstrating that these norms and legal instruments are themselves results of, and sites of, contestation. The second section examines how identity, voice and space affect actor understandings of meaningful consultation. The third section considers how rights have emerged as central to the stakeholder consultation regime. Finally, we consider how the proliferation of normative frameworks for consultation adds to complexity and contestation in the stakeholder consultation regime.
