Abstract
This afterword comments on the rich and multifaceted contribution of this Companion. It welcomes the acknowledgement of tourists as location creators and their role in constructing and enhancing place narratives. Through a meta-reading of the chapters, a more robust conceptualization of participatory placemaking is put forward, which sketches three distinct processes: Place-wrecking, Place-assembling and Place-enhancing. The chapter concludes with a call for enriching media tourism studies with experiential, non-representational and phenomenological perspectives.
