EUopstart- Network of European Data Scientists for Data Driven Decision Making

Project Details

Description

The Network of European Data Scientists for Data Driven Decision Making
(DataSciNet4D) will recruit 7 ESRs and train them as PhD students, in a cross
disciplinary and intersectoral doctoral training research and education program, to address the urgent need for an integrated modeling and computing environment that facilitates data visualization and data analysis of complex data to aid Data Driven Decision Making. The ESRs will acquire direct expertise in interdisciplinary research by actively addressing the main scientific and technological objectives of DataSciNet4D. These objectives are achieved by
• enhancing Interpretability to fulfill the right-to-explanation in algorithmic decision making required by the EU as of 2018, but also required when nonexperts are to interact with data analysis tools;
• developing innovative data science tools to manage Complex Data such as
network data, time-evolving data, spatial data, and process data; and
• proposing High Performance Algorithms that go beyond the state of the art to
address the computational challenges posed, not only by the nature of the data at hand but also by the increasing sophistication of the models supporting decision making.
The training network expands across 4 EU countries, namely Belgium, Denmark,
The Netherlands, Spain. It includes public sector institutions and companies from
the Energy, the Transportation, the insurance as well the information technology
sectors. The network includes leading researchers in the field of Mathematical
Optimization and Data Science. With this composition and expertise, the Network of European Data Scientists for Data Driven Decision Making is the first industrial
doctoral training network of its kind and is excellently placed to deliver the cutting edge research and capability building that help fill short term and long term need of industry and public organizations, thus increasing the innovation capacity of Data Science and advancing it throughout Europe.
