Digital technologies, AI and workers’ job, employment and income security in the Danish long-term care sector

Project Details

Description

Job security, employment security, and income security play key roles in shaping a secure working life, but they seem increasingly under pressure, especially within the Danish long term care sector (LTC). Shifts in occupational structures, labour shortages and increased organisational fragmentation and transformation of work tasks fuelled by digitalisation and automation have led to rising shares of non-standard and often precarious work in the sector.
In this context, labour shortages in LTC are widely attributed to insecurity among care workers, a consequence of low pay, precarious work and limited career opportunities. While international recruitment is often proposed as a solution, a focus on good work and well-being across the workforce is essential to counter low productivity and turnover in the sector. The following research question is in focus: how does the increasing use of AI and algorithmic
management (AM) impact job quality security for those working in the Danish LTC sector.
