Description
Symposium. Despite advancements toward gender equity, significant disparities in leadership representation persist across various sectors. Thus, an important and growing body of literature has aimed to investigate the determinants of these gaps. This symposium aims to contribute to this ongoing conversation by examining both supply-side (i.e., who is willing to lead) and demand-side (i.e., who is selected to lead) perspectives on gender gaps in leadership. The four papers in this symposium span diverse contexts and provide behavioral evidence from both the field and the lab to investigate gender gaps across different levels of the career hierarchy, formal and informal leadership contexts, and sources of power. Together, they provide a holistic view of the mechanisms driving these gaps and offer actionable insights for tailored interventions. Concluding the symposium, Oliver Hauser and Nicolas Bastardoz will provide insightful commentary on the presentations and facilitate an interactive discussion, bridging perspectives from gender and leadership scholars to inspire future research and practice.Among the papers are: Who will lead by authors Sofie Cairo (Copenhagen Business School), Orsola Garofalo (Copenhagen Business School) and Valentina Tartari (Stockholm School of Economics).
