This Master’s Thesis examines the concept of trust related to economy and information technology.
In today’s fast paced society we see an increased tendency of people being overworked, despite an immense increase in technological developments. 100 years ago, it was common to think that today we would be working a few days each week, and spending the rest of the time mastering the art of life itself. This is not the case for most people today.
The thesis introduces the concept of pseudo work and compares it to current and historical economist thinkers and paradigms. As a further contemporary take on the subject, social media is discussed with regards to its relationship with work today, seen from a sociological point of view.
The thesis finds that further research on the subject may not be needed in classic terms of academic work, however, it does suggest that we may benefit greatly as individuals and as a society if we decide to change some fundamental flaws of the way we work today. In particular we need to reevaluate how we value and handle trust between all actors in a society, whether it be individuals, companies, technology, or institutions.
