The object of this thesis is to examine the two models presented by Teresa M. Amabile, CTOCI and KEYS, based on a critical theoretical and empirical analysis and discussion of their ability to uncover the creative potential in a work context defined by life and death. The thesis holds a social constructivist view of the world, and sees interactions and language at the core of forming all phenomena. The theoretical base of this thesis includes an investigation of the phenomenon organization and the term creativity. Furthermore, a critical investigation of the two models CTOCI and KEYS is done by exploring additional literature from related fields such as management, cognitive psychology, motivation and culture.By critically applying diverse perspectives, theories and models from existing literature, the individual and organizational dimensions relevant to creativity, as presented by the two models are reassessed and reworked into a work model, subsequently used to conduct a small empirical analysis. This model explores the specific organizational contexts influence on creative potential with emphasis on the three levels, individual/group, leadership and organization, and the three dimensions, motivation/engagement, competences & challenges and freedom & time pressure. The empirical base consists of a description of Falck as a unique organizational context, defined by life and death and a unique set of deeply held values. Hereafter the collection and interpretation of the empirical material, consisting of six qualitative interviews, is presented. The focus of the following theoretically and empirically based analyses and discussion is to identify diversities between theory and reality, and make suggestions based on these findings. It is concluded that the organizational context, and its specific characteristics made up by the unique social interactions in Falck, does indeed seem to influence the organizations creative potential. As a result, this thesis encourages anyone interested, to make further critical investigations about the relationship between organizational creativity and different organizational contexts.
