This thesis examines how the business area Wind Power at DONG Energy could implement a knowledge management system to create the foundation for increased efficiency in the organization. However, there were several challenges in this regard: They’ve had three knowledge management systems that weren’t utilized as intended and this has led to inefficiencies throughout the organization. In order to overcome these challenges Wind Power has decided to implement the knowledge management system QUBE to be able to increase efficiency. A thorough analysis of the problem situation was conducted through quantitative and qualitative research. The collected data in the organization concerned the opinion and utilization of the current knowledge management systems and the employees view if these systems were consolidated. The theoretical frameworks that were applied to resolve the case study were Enterprise Architecture as Strategy, Benefits Management, KMS Reference Architecture and Knowledge Management. Enterprise Architecture determines how IT should be positioned within the organization and enhances the organizations ability to apply strategic initiatives by designing a foundation for execution. This helps Wind Power create an internal structure that could leverage an IT implementation with the purpose to achieve organizational efficiency. Benefits Management hereafter builds the foundation for execution through multiple projects. The KMS Reference Architecture and Knowledge Management theory helps point out the issues regarding the system and how knowledge is created and how a codification strategy can turn the system from a tool to become an organizational asset. This facilitates support of the daily processes and knowledge sharing. The above resulted in two project solutions: - The first solution concerns the knowledge management system QUBE and how it should be utilized according to the Unification operating model. This enables a collaboration platform for handling and sharing of critical organizational data. - The second solution manages the transformation in the organization. Exploiting QUBE to create a foundation for efficiency requires a top-down and bottom-up change effort to make the foundation for execution an integral part of the organization. It can hereby be concluded that without the implementation of the foundation for execution Wind Power will not be able to achieve their goal of increased efficiency in the organization. The alignment between IT, business processes and strategic initiatives allows Wind Power to learn, exploit IT and to cope with current and future challenges.
