Abstrakt

Talent management has in many ways become the answer to how organizations, among other things, handle future demographic challenges facing the labour. However, studying the literature closer indicates that talent management is not exclusively positive, because the talent management concept has an individual-oriented approach, which leads to a series of challenges organizations have to deal with. Although talent management basically has a positive purpose: investing in the development of talented employees, the literature shows that talent management instead can turn into an activity that may impede collaboration within the organization. Our thesis is an inquiry into how an organization's internal working relationships are influenced by talent management. The inquiry is based on a social capital perspective, in which we find an indication of which condition the internal working relationships are in. In our theoretical discussion we have outlined the challenges, which may arise by virtue of talent management. Since social capital is a relatively new concept in the organizational context, we have outlined the historical development and explained which of the many theoretical angles, this thesis is based on. Our empirical analysis reveals the challenges that exist in our case company, South Zealand and Lolland-Falsters Police and how these challenges have affected the organization's social capital. Based on both the theoretical and empirical inquiry it is concluded that South Zealand and Lolland-Falsters Police has initiated a talent management initiative in which corporation between the identified talent and the remaining employees have been hampered. The inquiry results show an unclear focus on how talent management supports the Police district's core tasks. Our conclusion therefore underlines that talent management may discourage the Police district's target to promote the organization's social capital
