This thesis examines the implementing of Lean in a Danish retail company. The focus is pointed at the motivation of the employees, Lean and its change processes and the power relation between the managers and the employees. The study in this thesis shows that employee’s motivation is necessary for the company if they want to achieve efficiency and success with Lean. The company is dependent on their employees as they are the company’s most imported resource. The managers have to show respect and trust to the employees, while they use the employee’s knowledge. Based on this thesis there are different ways of motivating employees and how much engagement the employees show in the change processes of Lean. Many of the employees have worked in the company for many years and therefore they have their own permanent routines and it can make the change processes of Lean difficult. The employee’s reception is significance for the company’s success with implementing Lean. The result of this thesis shows that a negative attitude towards change can have an effect on the other employees and also the enthusiasm of Lean. If the employees do not follow the Lean process and have a negative attitude about the changes, it can be difficult for the company to introduce Lean. When implementing Lean it can have an influence on the distribution of power in the organization. The fundamental idea behind Lean is to have the employees run the company and its development. The employees are the ones to propose new changes and take responsibility for their actions. The managers will have to give up some of their responsibility and let the other employees take over. This can be a challenge for the managers who like to have the control and follow a vertical building of the hierarchy. It is all about trust between employees and managers, it is easier to communicate and distribute the power in the company when there is mutual trust.
