Abstract

In today's globalized society, the issue of refugee immigration is one of the most pressing and complex challenges faced by many nations. The integration of refugees in the economy and society of host countries is of crucial importance with the increasing flow of refugees worldwide. This paper focuses on Denmark and examines the consequences of refugee immigration on various sectors of society. The research paper delves into the complex dynamics surrounding refugee immigration and its impact on the productivity of Danish companies. Spanning the years 1995 to 2019, the study employs a comprehensive dataset integrating information from the Danish Statistics on employers and employees to explore how the presence of refugees in different industries shapes overall productivity levels. The metric utilized in this paper is the sales generated per employee. One of the key findings of the research emphasizes the significance of the distribution of refugees across specific sectors such as cleaning, hospitality, and healthcare in influencing the overall productivity of companies. The study uncovers challenges and opportunities in integrating refugees into the workforce, considering factors like varying education levels, job preferences, and cultural barriers. By analyzing the allocation of refugees in different industries, the paper underscores the importance of matching theory and social capital in facilitating successful job placements for this demographic group. Moreover, the research sheds light on the critical role of policy interventions and institutional support in enhancing the economic contribution of refugees to the Danish economy. By addressing issues related to language proficiency, skills recognition, and discrimination, policymakers and businesses can create a more inclusive and productive work environment for refugees. The study underscores the need for tailored integration strategies that leverage the diverse talents and potential of refugee populations to drive economic growth and social cohesion in Denmark. In conclusion, the paper offers nuanced insights into the intricate relationship between refugee immigration and company productivity in Denmark. By examining the multifaceted dynamics of labor market integration and economic performance, the research contributes valuable insights to the existing literature on migration studies and offers guidance for future policy development and integration strategies.
