The purpose of this master thesis is to examine the Danish army organizational culture’s influence on the soldier’s motivation. The master thesis hypothesis is that culture’s helps to determine what degree of motivation the soldiers are exhibiting in their work. Soldier’s motivation may be, among other things, managed through cultural initiatives. The master thesis will show the correlation between the culture’s the soldier’s are exposed to and the motivation of the soldiers are exhibiting. The master thesis will also come with concrete examples on how the Danish army can change the cultures that are resulting in poor motivation, as well as concrete ways the Danish army and other organizations can change their organizational culture, without affecting or even improving the motivation in the organization. The problem in the master thesis will be treated in two parts. The first section will show what motivation is and how the motivation is related to cultures. The second part will show how we change the culture of an organization in order to maintain or even improve the motivation of the organization.
