Abstract
This master thesis is drawing on a poststructuralist approach with the object to examine the nursing conflict in Denmark in 2021. The thesis observes the nursing conflict through two different fields of articulation: firstly, the broad media debate and secondly the political parliamentary debate. This is the focus of the thesis for subsequently to discuss which impossibility conditions the conflict creates. The theoretical optic of this thesis is based on Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe’s discourse theory, which provides an insight into how the two fields of articulations try to affix a certain meaning to the concept of the nursing conflict. The thesis is divided in two similar analyses which each help to examine the research question. The first analysis examines how four themes are articulated and how the communication though a web of equivalence and difference signifying chains creates two nodel points. The second analysis examines two themes and how these themes seem to create one nodel point. The thesis can conclude how a ‘control impossibility’ arises in the nursing conflict, when the two fields of articulations articulate the conflict, by trying to affix two different meanings to the conflict which cannot coexist. In the end the thesis try to reflect on how this ‘control impossibility’ can be solved.
