The second Basel II accord was introduced in 2004 and the latest regulations from the Basel III-framework are currently being implemented in financial sectors around the world. This thesis aims to analyze the consequences of the implementation of the Basel III accord. It will focus on how the capital requirements will influence on medium and larger banks in Denmark. The study will also outline the additional requirements regarding the systemically important financial institutions (SIFI’s) with a sole focus on the Danish institutions. With this in mind the thesis will guide you through Basel II and the new advanced requirements in Basel III. After that the medium and larger financial institutions in Denmark will be compared in a compliance analysis with regards to the quantitative capital requirements. In continuation of this, it will be discussed how the banks will challenge the new requirements and what measurements can be used to reach these. In our study we conclude that larger banks in Denmark are compliant and a few medium-sized banks will be in need of capital for them to be compliant with the forthcoming Basel III-framework.
