Identification of Talents and the Effect of Global Talent Management on Individual Performance

Resumé

The purpose of this review article is to provide a framework for defining and operationalizing talent. In the article, I conduct a review of the literature on talents, stars, high-performers and similar concepts from different fields and compare similarities and overlap, but also discuss discrepancies and shortcomings of current research. These insights serve as the foundation for presenting a conceptual framework for defining talents within the different fields. Using a human capital resource argument, I explain how any definitions of talent must to show an understanding of the link between firm strategy, talent and organizational value creation. Ultimately, I aim at providing more comprehensive guidelines for defining talent and to advance the understanding of what constitutes talent, which could aid the continued development of research on talent management.
