Abstract

Venture Capital (VC) firms play a fundamental role in any entrepreneurial ecosystem around the world. In the last several decades, VC firms have financially supported the growth and success of innovative firms across a variety of industries and countries. Yet, their operating model and their impact on startups, and more broadly on the overall economy, have been challenged by cyclical economic downturns and recessions. Among those, the global financial crisis of 2008 played a significant role in the recent history of venture capital financing.
