Abstract
Drawing on an empirical study of AirBnB and GoMore, this paper studies value creation at the provider-customer interface, from a perspective of performativity in practice-theory. In contrast to previous studies, it argues that the co-production of value is not associated with value as single entities but as crossings with other values. Four value-constructions emerges from the analysis inductively: monetary, safety, hospitality, and social/experience. Still, both studies also reveal that the monetary value construction, for instance, must be juxtaposed with safety, to enabling value creation. The study extends the concept of value-in-use with performative practice theory and adds to the bulk of literature identifying separate values and the literature distinguishing value use from value exchange.
