N2 - The central question posed in this commentary concerns cities, and the cause and effect of globalization on cities. Due to a multitude of circumstances, we are pulling closer together. Distances are reduced. During recent years, mass migration has seen people from Africa and the Middle East moving to European cities and people from Latin America moving to U.S. cities. In Western Europe, when people migrate, they move to cities, as agricultural production automation leaves rural dwellers unemployed. All over the world, people move to cities that grow at a faster rate than rural populations.
