    Abstract

The article presents a study which investigates the effects of direct transfers of the four Danish vowels into English. The study employs a perception experiment and a forced-choice word identification experiment, in which the Danish words were presented to native English listeners. Results showed the spelling-sound relationship and assimilation of the foreign into native category sound which can lead to the use of an unmodified native language sound production in the foreign language.
