Abstrakt

In his influential essay on markets, An essay on framing and overflowing (1998), Michel Callon writes that 'the growing complexity of industrialized societies [is] due in large part to the movements of the technosciences, which are causing connections and interdependencies to proliferate'. This paper is about technoscience, and about the proliferation of connections and interdependencies created by it. More specifically, the paper is about stem cells. Biotechnology in general has the power to capture the imagination. Within the field of biotechnology nothing seems more provocative and tantalizing than stem cells, in research, in medicine, or as products.
