Recontextualizating Communication and Management Practices in a Regional Office of an MNC

Publikation: KonferencebidragPaperForskningpeer review

Abstract

Through a case study across cultural and linguistic boundaries, we explore how Danish and Mexican communication and management practices are negotiated and recontextualized at the Latin American office of a Scandinavian multinational corporation. Danish expatriates tend to communicate directly and prefer empowerment and participation, Mexican employees bring their culturally embedded ideals and work experiences to the workplace. Local and foreign communication and management practices are thus negotiated in a search for common ground. With a focus on recontextualization processes, we offer a theoretical model that is used in a context-sensitive case analysis relevant to both international business research and practice.
