Abstract

Moral economy theory describes shared social norms and moral assumptions underlying forms of economic organization and production. It also describes individuals’ perceptions of rights and responsibilities towards other individuals within a similar community. With respect to old age, moral economy theory focuses especially on the norms and moral assumptions shaping retirement, old age care, and the third age.
