Abstract

Digitalization is a hot topic. Much discourse in the media and elsewhere seems based on either dystopian or utopian visions of a transformed future digitalized society. Despite the hype, relatively little attention has been paid to how digitalization transforms everyday work in organizations, including managerial work (Plesner, Justesen, & Glerup, 2018). This chapter illustrates how a multi-sited ethnographic approach can inform studies of boundary-spanning phenomena like digitalization as an organizational phenomenon requiring managerial work.
