Abstract
A common assumption in research on global acculturation towards cosmopolitanism is that it occurs uniformly across geographic spaces whereas our contention is that it occurs in primarily within and among global cities. Examining 12,935 individuals across eleven countries, we enhance our understanding of the nature of global cities and the ways in which cosmopolitanism is a sub- and supranational phenomenon. Our findings suggest that European global cities are key sites of a cosmopolitan global culture that is different from their national compatriots and similar across global cities whereas this same convergence has not emerged in Asian global cities.
